Banquet at Schloss Weissenstein
The banquet of IWAENC 2022 will take place on Sept. 6 at Schloss Weissenstein. Schloss Weissenstein is a palatial residence in Pommersfelden (close to Bamberg) and was built between 1711 and 1719 for Lothar Franz von Schönborn, Prince Bishop of Bamberg and Archbishop of Mainz. Today the castle still remains the property of the Schönborn family.
Weissenstein castle in Pommersfelden is one of Germany’s greatest Baroque buildings. Lothar Franz von Schönborn employed some of the best-known architects of their time to construct a fantastic building of European importance. One particular highlight is the splendid furnished staircase covering three floors. The garden has been converted from a formal Baroque garden to an English park landscape.
Schloss Weissenstein has survived all wars in its 300-year history unscathed and is therefore one of the best-preserved castles of its era. It also contains the largest private Baroque art collection in Germany, containing over 600 pictures.
